About Alexis
Alexis is a licensed social worker and therapist, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP), and a Certified Dialectical Behavior Therapy (C-DBT) provider in the state of Georgia. She is the founder and director of The Zen Den Counseling and Wellness and has several years of experience working with young people within communities, inpatient hospitals, nonprofits, private practices, and residential treatment settings. Alexis specializes in child, teen, and young adult therapy and brings a unique and compassionate approach to addressing a wide array of mental health and behavioral concerns. With a trauma-informed perspective, she is well-equipped to navigate the complexities of childhood trauma and attachment concerns, understanding how these early experiences significantly impact a child's development.
Alexis’s expertise is not limited to milder issues; she possesses considerable experience with high acuity cases, including mood disorders, self-harm, and suicidal ideation, showcasing her capacity to support even the most vulnerable populations. She is deeply passionate about promoting the mental health and well-being of younger populations and dedicates herself to assisting her clients transition into happy, healthy older adults. Alexis's academic research focuses on the impact of childhood trauma and attachment stress across the lifespan. She utilizes a family systems-oriented approach and is a Level 1 trained Attachment Based Family Therapist. Alexis recognizes the importance of involving family members in the therapeutic process, fostering a supportive environment for healing and growth. By treating the family as a whole, Alexis aims to address not only the symptoms but the root causes of distress, ensuring more sustainable outcomes for children and teens.
Alexis provides both trauma informed and culturally sensitive and informed treatment and is an LGBTQIA+ ally. As a first generation American and having worked with individuals from various ages, racial and ethnic backgrounds, faiths, gender identities, and socioeconomic statuses, Alexis observed the many barriers that exist in mental healthcare access for some populations. She created The Zen Den Counseling and Wellness with hopes of increasing access to a space of serenity and healing for young people from numerous backgrounds.
Alexis’s work is a testament to the belief that with the right support, every individual has the potential to overcome adversities and flourish. In the last few years, she has made a tremendous impact, amassing a wealth of experience across several settings, and demonstrating an unwavering commitment to continually expanding her clinical knowledge and skills in the field. Overall, Alexis’s professional work with children, teens, young adults, and families is a beacon of hope for those navigating the challenges of growing up in today's complex world.
